About the role

Located on Curtis Island and reporting to the Facility Senior Process Engineer, this role is responsible for providing technical support to the Laboratory Team by implementing a comprehensive sampling and chemical analysis program. While the Laboratory Technician formally reports to the Senior Facility Process Engineer, day-to-day direction is provided by the Laboratory Specialist, who oversees and manages the APLNG Laboratory.

 

The successful candidate will ensure laboratory systems and instrumentation remain operational and will apply expert troubleshooting skills when necessary.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Sampling and Analysis: Perform in-depth sampling and analysis of APLNG downstream process streams (including gas, amine and wastewater), and communicate analytical results to key stakeholders.
  • Laboratory Operations: Conduct calibration, maintenance, and general upkeep of laboratory equipment and facilities. Implement analytical procedures using advanced instrumentation (e.g., GC, MP-AES, UV-Vis, IC).
  • Team Collaboration and Support: Collaborate effectively within a small team, operate independently with minimal supervision, assist in team training, and provide after-hours support as required.
  • External Coordination and LIMS: Coordinate external laboratory testing services and act as the primary contact for the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Procedure Management: Review and update laboratory procedures to support ongoing improvement and compliance.

You will also bring to the role:

  • Strong alignment with ConocoPhillips’ SPIRIT Values
  • Tertiary qualifications in Chemistry or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a hydrocarbon analysis laboratory
  • Experience working in industrial environments
  • Proficiency in water sample collection and analysis
  • Hands-on experience with Gas Chromatographs
  • Familiarity with LIMS and Microsoft Office applications
  • Flexibility with work hours

Preferred:

  • Experience in LNG or gas process analysis
  • Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting Gas Chromatographs
  • Previous experience as a LIMS administrator
  • Proficiency in SAP
