Nordic Calista
JOB SUMMARY:
The individual is to be very knowledgeable of all aspects of the drilling industry. A driller shall be conscientious, safe, and quick thinking under extreme conditions. The position requires the supervision of several employees and the ability to run a workover or drilling rig efficiently. Will be required to have a current IADC Well Control Certification at the Drilling Operations Supervisor level.
This position is expected to support the Winter Exploration 2025–2026 season, with an anticipated start date of December 2025 and an end date in April 2026.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for the safety and supervision of rig crew.
- Advises, consults, and communicates with oil company representatives in regard to drilling program well bore conditions.
- Advises, consults, and communicates with the Rig Manager in regard to the condition of the rig, his crew, and any well bore or operational issues.
- Familiar with operations of the rig and subsurface tools.
- Monitors all rig and subsurface conditions and reports any issues directly to the Rig Manager.
- Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the Rig Manager.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Responsible for safety of their crew. Driller is expected to understand all Nordic Calista Policies and Procedures.
- Establishes safe work practices and gives job instructions to their crew.
- Supervises workers to ensure they are following the proper job procedures and equipment operating practices and take part in the mentorship and training of his crew.
- Stops and corrects any unsafe condition or acts immediately.
- Reports any incidents or near misses to the Rig Manager and takes an active role in any incident investigations for any incidents on their shift.
- Responsible to ensure any worker who appears to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol is not allowed at the worksite. The Driller shall inform the Rig Manager of anyone who they suspect to be in an altered state of mind.
- Assists Rig Manager in identifying non-conformances between Nordic operations and environmental requirements including regulatory requirements, permit requirements, and contract requirements.
- Actively participates in Nordic Calista safety training and programs and mentors their crew to do the same.
- Assists in any internal audits as necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to obtain or currently hold a North Slope Training Cooperative card.
- Must have at least 5 years of rig experience with at least 2 years as a derrickman or motorman on a similar arctic drilling rig. Internal promotions are restricted to personnel with 1 year experience as a relief driller.
- Must have a current first aid card, H2S.
- Must be functionally literate, able to read, write, and perform basic math.
