BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for supporting engineering and maintenance activities related to electrical systems onshore and offshore oil and gas facilities. This role ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electrical equipment by conducting design reviews, troubleshooting, performance assessments, and regulatory compliance efforts. The engineer collaborates closely with operations, instrumentation, and project teams to maintain and upgrade systems as needed.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, specify, and oversee installation of electrical systems including MCCs, switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, and generators.
  • Perform routine and advanced troubleshooting of electrical power distribution systems, including low, medium, and high-voltage systems.
  • Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams for ongoing issues and planned outages.
  • Support capital projects by developing electrical scopes, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Ensure compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), American Petroleum Institute (API), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), National Fire Protection
  • Association (NFPA) 70E, and other relevant industry standards, as well as company policies.
  • Review and approve electrical one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, load studies, arc flash analyses, and grounding systems.
  • Assist with electrical reliability and preventive maintenance programs, including thermographic scans and motor diagnostics.
  • Participate in electrical hazard assessments and risk mitigation planning for offshore and onshore assets.
  • Support startup and commissioning activities for new installations or modifications to existing systems.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, asset records, and compliance logs for electrical equipment.
  • Must work onsite daily in Goleta, CA.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects assigned.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering
  • 5 years of relevant electrical engineering experience in the oil and gas, energy, or industrial sectors.
  • Strong understanding of offshore and onshore electrical systems, power distribution, and motor control.
  • Working knowledge of electrical codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, API RP 14F, etc.).
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, SKM, or ETAP for electrical design and system modeling.
  • Strong communication and team collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with SCADA, PLCs, and control system integration from an electrical interface perspective.
  • Previous offshore platform experience in the Gulf of America or the California coast.
  • Onsite work at Las Flores Canyon and ability to travel to offshore platforms and other Company locations as needed.
  • Split time between office, onshore processing facility, and offshore platforms.
  • Must be able to climb stairs/ladders and work in confined or elevated spaces as needed.
  • Occasional offshore travel via helicopter or boat and overnight stays in platform accommodations.

PAY INFORMATION:

Annual Salary Pay Range: $180k – $225k
